The idea of the Discomfort Blog is simple:
1) Each month = one project that pushes me outside my comfort zone
2) Write about it
That's it.
But why now?
I was recently listening to uber-bro Tim Ferris's interview with Leo Babauta. Leo runs a very successful blog called Zen Habits. The blog addresses many subjects related to mindfulness, meditation, productivity, life balance, relationships, you get the idea. During the interview with Tim Ferris, they spoke about discomfort and leaning into discomfort.
Leaning into discomfort is something that I have long been fascinated by, but I have always been afraid of it. My mind starts searching for a way out at the first hint of muscle fatigue or when a new email appears. The idea of the Discomfort Blog is to push past that and see what happens.
First up... cold showers! I am basically a cat. When I go to the beach, I usually don't go for a swim. And I live near the Mediterranean! I greatly dislike cold water on my body times infinity. I got the idea to make cold showers my first Discomfort Blog Challenge after reading up on Wim Hof and the Wim Hof Method. Also know as The Iceman, Wim Hof is something of a self-improvement guru who combines breathing techniques, meditation, and cold exposure.
My body is tensing up just thinking about it. Let's see how this goes!
